Milan – Giorgio Armani, the globally renowned italian fashion designer, has died at the age of 91, his company announced Thursday.Reports from news agencies AP, AFP, and TASR confirmed the news.The Armani Group shared the news on Facebook, stating, “With immense sorrow, the Armani group announces the death of its creator, founder and tireless driving force – Giorgio Armani.” The post noted that Armani,affectionately known as “Signor Armani” by colleagues,passed away peacefully surrounded by family.
Despite his age, Armani remained actively engaged with the company in his final days, fully dedicated to upcoming collections and projects. The company’s statement highlighted his lasting impact: “Over the decades, Giorgio Armani created a vision that has grown fashion borders and hit all areas of life. With extraordinary clairvoyance, he was able to anticipate time, driven by an insatiable curiosity and deep interest in people and the present. He championed his beloved Milan.”
Founded over fifty years ago, the Armani brand was built on a foundation of “passion and patience,” according to the company. Armani consistently prioritized independence – both in thought and action – and the company remains a testament to that spirit. Company representatives affirmed that his family and employees will continue to lead the group, upholding his values.
A public viewing will be held at Armani/Teatro in Milan from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM, allowing the public to pay their respects. However, the funeral will be a private affair, held in accordance with Armani’s explicit wishes.
