Radio-Canada will celebrate singer Ginette Reno’s 80th birthday with a special broadcast of “En direct de l’univers” on April 25th, three days before her actual birthday on April 28th, according to a press release issued February 24th.

The program, hosted by France Beaudoin, will mark Reno’s first major television appearance in several years. Beaudoin and her team will host the celebration, which will be the final episode of the current season of the show. The broadcast is scheduled to air at 7:00 PM EST.

The show is expected to feature appearances from several artists with whom Reno has collaborated throughout her career, including Mario Pelchat, Vladimir Kornéev and Paul Daraîche. Sources indicate that Reno’s son, Pascalin Raunault, a longtime musical partner, may likewise participate.

“En direct de l’univers” will return on Saturday, February 29th, after a hiatus during the Olympic period, with actress Isabelle Brouillette as a guest. Brouillette recently underwent surgery following a diagnosis of a rare cancer. Upcoming guests also include singer Pierre Lapointe on March 7th, and a celebration of Canadian francophone culture on March 14th featuring Véronic Dicaire, Daniel Lavoie, and Ryan Doucette.

Ginette Reno’s career has spanned decades, establishing her as a cultural icon in Quebec. A 2025 Reddit discussion highlighted her performance of “Un peu haut, un peu plus loin” as a particularly memorable moment in Quebec culture.
