Georgia Tech Quarterback Haynes King Showing Positive Signs in Recovery, Status for Clemson game Remains Uncertain
ATLANTA - Georgia Tech quarterback Haynes King is “trending in teh right direction” as he recovers from a lower-body injury, head coach brent Key said tuesday, raising the possibility of his return for Saturday’s game against No. 12 Clemson. King missed last week’s game against Gardner-Webb as a precaution, but appears to be progressing well in his rehabilitation.
King’s potential availability is a critically important development for the Yellow Jackets, who are looking to snap a nine-game losing streak to Clemson. The sixth-year senior was instrumental in Georgia Tech’s season-opening win against Colorado, accounting for 299 total yards and three rushing touchdowns, including a game-winning 45-yard run in the final minute.
King sustained the injury during the victory over Colorado, but Key emphasized King “looks good, feels good,” during Tuesday’s news conference. Though, the coach stopped short of confirming King’s status, stating, “We’ll make a determination this weekend.”
Freshman Aaron Philo filled in for King against Gardner-Webb, earning ACC rookie of the week honors after throwing for a school-record 373 yards despite two early turnovers.
King has faced Clemson once before,in 2023,throwing four interceptions in a 42-21 loss. Georgia Tech will release player availability reports on Thursday and Friday, with a final update two hours before Saturday’s kickoff, designating players as available, a game-time decision, or out.
