Donald Glover revealed during a performance at Tyler, the Creator’s Camp Flog Gnaw festival in Los Angeles on Saturday night that he suffered a stroke while on tour in 2024. The revelation comes as Glover concludes his run as Childish Gambino with the recent release of his final album, Bando Stone & the New World, adn a corresponding tour intended as a farewell to the stage name.
The health scare occurred during the tour, beginning with severe head pain in Louisiana. Despite the pain, Glover continued to perform before seeking medical attention in Houston, where doctors diagnosed him with a stroke. He jokingly referenced Jamie Foxx’s publicly disclosed stroke in 2023, stating, “The first thing I thoght was like, ‘Oh, here I am still copying Jamie Foxx.'” Glover also disclosed that he had broken a foot and undergone two surgeries to repair a hole in his heart.
“I was doing this world tour,” Glover told the audience. “I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there…I couldn’t really see well.”
Glover, a five-time Grammy winner, reflected on the experience, saying, “They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realise you have one.” He expressed gratitude for his career and connection with fans, adding, “You got one life, guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
