GE Aerospace Announces £57m Investment for Prestwick Aircraft Repair Facility
GE Aerospace is committing £57 million to expand and modernise its maintenance, repair and overhaul facility next to Prestwick Airport in South Ayrshire, creating 150 new jobs over the next five years.
GE Aerospace Invests £30 Million in Prestwick Building
The capital expenditure plan centers on a £30 million direct investment by GE Aerospace. This corporate outlay funds the construction of a new 55,000 square foot building designed to boost capacity and operational flow across the firm’s commercial network. Andy Prow, site leader at GE Aerospace in Prestwick, said: This investment reflects GE Aerospace’s commitment to our customers and to the future of our Prestwick site.
Construction work is scheduled for completion by the first quarter of 2028.
Public sector backing accounts for the remaining financial structure of the project. The Ayrshire Growth Deal contributes £27 million, while Scottish Enterprise provides a planned £6 million investment. UK Government minister for Scotland Melanie Ward stated that total UK Government funding through the Ayrshire Growth Deal into the Prestwick aerospace cluster reaches £32 million.

Donation to Ayrshire College Supports Aerospace Training
To secure future engineering talent, GE Aerospace announced a £75,000 donation to Ayrshire College. The funds purchase specialized training equipment for approximately 150 students and apprentices, supporting a curriculum tailored for careers in the aerospace sector. South Ayrshire Council leader Brian Connolly described the investment as a major milestone
for the Ayrshire Growth Deal, which will significantly benefit
the local and national economy. The investment will retain high value skilled jobs, attract talent to the sector and reinforce Prestwick’s position as a leading UK aerospace location, while creating attractive career opportunities for future generations in local STEM industries,
he added.
Deputy First Minister Jenny Gilruth described the expansion as a vote of confidence in Scotland’s advanced manufacturing and engineering workforce. Reuben Aitken from Scottish Enterprise added that the project builds on decades of engineering expertise at the South Ayrshire site and strengthens its contribution to Scottish exports.
Prestwick Expansion Follows Infrastructure Spend in Wales
The Prestwick overhaul site services private, commercial, and military aircraft engines. This regional expansion follows similar infrastructure commitments by the American manufacturer across its United Kingdom footprint. The US company also has bases in Cardiff and Hounslow. In 2025, GE Aerospace committed £14.2 million over three years to improve facilities at its Wales site.
