Israeli Strikes Resume in Gaza as Netanyahu Authorizes Beirut Attack
Israeli forces resumed bombardments in the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, ending a truce brokered under American pressure on October 10 following a two-year period of conflict with Hamas. Concurrently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu authorized a strike in Beirut targeting Hezbollah‘s chief of staff, according to reports.
At least 21 Palestinians were killed in the renewed strikes across Gaza City (north) and the central areas of Deir Al-Balah and Nousseirat, as reported by Mahmoud Bassal, spokesperson for civil defense – a first aid organization operating under Hamas authority – to Agence France-Presse (AFP).
AFP images from al-Aqsa hospital in Deir al-Balah depict ambulances arriving with casualties, including multiple children, one young girl visibly injured with a bloodied face, and a body being carried on a stretcher.
the initial Israeli attack struck a vehicle in Gaza City’s Al-Rimal neighborhood. An AFP photographer observed civilians, including children, examining the wreckage on Saturday afternoon.
Subsequent bombings quickly followed, targeting a residence near the Bilal Ibn rabah mosque in Deir Al-Balah, according to civil defense reports. A third strike hit housing near Al-Awda hospital in Nousseirat, as relayed by the first aid organization.
Both Israel and Hamas accuse each other of violating the previous truce agreement.
