Gary Neville Slams Man Utd Players for Lack of Professionalism
Gary Neville criticized Manchester United’s players on his podcast following a 3-0 Premier League defeat to Bournemouth at Old Trafford, stating that several squad members lack professionalism and walk around acting as if they are “King William.”
Defeat at Old Trafford Leaves Carrick’s Future Uncertain
The latest loss leaves manager Michael Carrick’s job hanging by a thread. The defeat followed a 4-0 Champions League loss in Como on the preceding Wednesday, marking the club’s sixth defeat in 12 games across all competitions this season.
Neville watched the Sunday match from the commentary box and delivered a scathing assessment of the squad’s habits and mindset.
There’s a few of them that aren’t that professional. There’s a couple of them… I live in Manchester, they’re not that professional, some of them. I’ve got no time for them. There’s a few of them that don’t go to bed at the right time. Don’t eat the right things. Don’t think about Manchester United every single minute of every single day.
The former United captain asserted that the players are not living and breathing the club as professionals should, adding that success has gone to their heads. They still walk around like they’re King William… they’re not, they’re nothing,
Neville said on his podcast, pointing to a Stretford End banner displayed in the first half that read ‘standards’ to emphasize his point that club values have deteriorated.
Defense of Carrick Amid Player Frustrations
While assigning blame for the team’s Premier League slide squarely to the players, Neville defended Carrick, describing his former teammate as a brilliant man with integrity, credibility, decency, and professionalism.
Neville noted that Carrick has been unable to get a tune out of the squad and suggested the players have turned against the manager. He referenced a public statement made by Bruno, indicating that if such friction is visible publicly, the internal dynamics behind the scenes must be severely strained.
