Family to File Complaint after 12-Year-Old Crushed by Concrete Block in Saze
The family of 12-year-old Lenny T., who died on Friday, August 29th in Saze, gard, will file a complaint against the town hall on Monday for “manslaughter” and “deliberate endangering of the life of others.” Their lawyer, Me Hamroun, announced the intention to file the complaint ”at the first hour this Monday morning” to BFMTV.
Lenny died after being crushed by a concrete block while waiting for friends near the entrance to the municipal football stadium. initial reports indicate the boy was sitting on a chain stretched between two concrete pillars and swung on it, causing one of the pillars to become dislodged and fall on him.
“Children are present in this stage every day to play. It could have been anyone else,” stated Me Hamroun. The family believes the tragedy was preventable, arguing “there was no foundation for these posts” and that the mayor failed to address the potential danger by installing warning signage. “The Mayor did not see fit to set up a display on the spot concerning the dangerousness of this equipment, which caused this death,” Me Hamroun added.
An examination for “manslaughter” has been opened by the Nîmes prosecutor’s office and is being conducted by the gendarmerie research brigade in Bagnols-sur-Cèze.
The Saze town hall expressed “deep sadness” following the “dramatic accident” on facebook, offering condolences to the family and assuring them of their full support. The town hall also confirmed a gendarmerie investigation is underway.
