The on-screen reunion of Kit Harington and Sophie Turner, former co-stars on HBO’s Game of Thrones, has taken an unexpectedly candid turn. Footage from behind the scenes of their upcoming horror film, The Dreadful, reveals the pair reacting with visible disgust – and audible retching sounds – immediately after completing a required kiss.
The scene, which has circulated online, shows Harington and Turner performing a kiss as part of their characters’ storyline. However, the moment director Natasha Kermani calls “cut,” both actors immediately make gagging noises. The clip highlights the awkwardness of portraying a romantic relationship after spending eight seasons as on-screen siblings, Sansa and Jon Snow.
“It was a big moment together that ended in a kiss — which they both joked they were totally dreading,” Kermani told publications, as reported by MSN. “When cameras rolled? Absolute pros. They nailed it and sold the magic. The second I yelled ‘cut’… *poof* magic gone.”
Turner previously described the experience as “weird for all of us,” acknowledging the unusual dynamic of transitioning from playing siblings to lovers. Harington added to the discomfort, noting that he had to stand on an apple box during the scene due to a height difference with Turner, which he found “slightly embarrassing.”
Despite the personal discomfort, both actors maintained professionalism on set, delivering a convincing performance when the cameras were rolling. Kermani emphasized their dedication to the craft, stating they “leaned into the steamy nature of the scene” during filming.
The Dreadful, a gothic horror film, is scheduled for release in theaters and on digital platforms on March 20. Game of Thrones remains available for streaming with an HBO Max subscription.
