Gallows Corner Flyover: Completion Now Expected in Spring 2026
Transport for London (TfL) has announced a revised completion date for the Gallows Corner flyover replacement project, now anticipated for spring 2026. The update was shared with Havering Council Members and Officers following sustained pressure from the local authority.
Havering Council Leader, Councillor ray Morgon, responded to the announcement, stating: “After months of uncertainty and extensive engagement - including direct meetings with the Transport Commissioner and tfl officers – we finally have a clearer understanding of the project’s timeline. While it’s encouraging to have this clarity,I am deeply disappointed that the junction will not reopen before Christmas,a significant setback for our community.”
Councillor Morgon acknowledged the widespread disruption caused by the prolonged closure. “This news will undoubtedly frustrate residents and businesses who have already experienced considerable difficulties. The closure has impacted daily commutes, local commerce, schools, emergency service access, and public transport networks, and has also created delays in the Council’s other planned road improvements.”
He emphasized the significant impact on the borough, adding, “The frustration felt across Havering is palpable and cannot be overstated.”
While recognizing the project’s complexity and unforeseen challenges – specifically the engineering difficulties encountered during water main diversions undertaken by Essex and Suffolk Water – Councillor Morgon stressed the Council’s commitment to accountability. “We will continue to press TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water for consistent dialogue and to ensure this new timeline is met. we are also actively seeking compensation for affected businesses and residents.”
The Council will continue to demand regular, clear updates from TfL and will work collaboratively to minimize further disruption.”We expect TfL and Essex and Suffolk Water to prioritize the efficient completion of this vital project,” Councillor Morgon concluded. “Gallows Corner is a crucial link for Havering and East London, and its renewal is essential for the safety, reliability, and economic wellbeing of our community.”
