National Traditional Martial Arts Championships Kick Off in Gia Lai Province
Gia Lai, Vietnam – The 34th National Traditional Martial Arts Championships commenced today in Gia Lai Province, drawing participation from 30 delegations representing 21 cities and provinces across Vietnam. The opening ceremony highlighted the province’s rich cultural heritage and its significance as a cradle of Vietnamese traditional martial arts, originating from the former binh Dinh region.
Nguyen Thi Thanh Lich, Vice Chairman of the Gia lai People’s Committee, emphasized the tournament’s location within the heartland of Thai-line martial arts, the birthplace of the discipline in Vietnam. Vice Chairman Nguyen Tan Rick welcomed the athletes and underscored Gia Lai’s unique cultural identity,describing the province’s stunning Bazzan Plateau,expansive forests,and resonant gongs as symbols of hidden strength and captivating beauty.
The event is envisioned as a platform for cultural exchange between the plains and mountainous regions, blending the spirit of traditional martial arts with the unique character of the Central Highlands. Organizers anticipate this combination will create memorable experiences and new highlights throughout the championship.
Rick also pointed to Gia Lai’s strategic geographical position as a gateway to the Central Plateau and a key economic hub, fostering progress and integration opportunities. He further noted the historical importance of the merger between the former provinces of “Gubindine” and “Sinja Rai,” viewing it as a pivotal moment in connecting and celebrating two distinct cultural and heritage areas.
The championships are seen as a testament to the spirit of national solidarity and the enduring legacy of traditional Vietnamese values. Competition began immediately following the opening ceremony with boxing matches. The 34th National Traditional martial Arts Championships will conclude on August 12th.
