Gaither Vocal Band Singer to Headline LaFayette Charity Concert

Southern Gospel Concert Benefiting Christmas Charity Set for LaFayette

I grew up as, I guess we could say, an underprivileged child, Todd Suttles said in a phone interview, So, I was one of those that benefited from something like this.

A member of the Gaither Vocal Band is returning to his hometown to headline a charity fundraiser. The Gospel Folk Fest takes place Saturday at LaFayette Baptist Church in LaFayette, Georgia. Proceeds from the occasion support the Al Millard Memorial Stocking Full of Love Fund, which supplies toys to Walker County families who require assistance purchasing Christmas presents for their kids.

Suttles, a baritone for the group, will perform alongside a community choir and guest vocalists from the community, according to his interview. The Stocking Full of Love program launched in 1989. During that inaugural year, the charity aided 37 children in Walker County, according to Sheriff Steve Wilson during a phone conversation.

The charity has since grown significantly. The organization now averages around 1,500 children each year.

A separate regional benefit concert featured the group Poet Voices and founder Phil Cross on Friday, Oct. 23, at 7 p.m. at Clear Creek Church of Christ, 5612 Hixson Pike in Hixson, benefiting Greater Chattanooga Christian Services. Cross, a Chattanooga native, was inducted into the Southern Gospel Music Hall of Fame at the National Quartet Convention and released the book Song of a Lifetime. The Oct. 23 concert was free and open to the public. We are thrilled to bring Poet Voices to Chattanooga for an evening of music that uplifts the spirit and directly serves our neighbors in need, said Pam Nemec, Marketing Manager. Greater Chattanooga Christian Services works tirelessly to help individuals and families across our area, and this concert is a wonderful opportunity for our community to come together in support of that vital mission.

The LaFayette Baptist Church concert unites local vocalists and community members in support of the decades-long holiday toy drive.
