Jessica Peters Opens New Gait School, expanding Occupational Therapy Services in Buxtehude
Jessica Peters, a dedicated occupational therapist, is pleased to announce the opening of her new gait school in Buxtehude. An open house will be held on Friday, November 7th, from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at her practice located on the ground floor of Bertha-von Suttner-Allee 1. The event will offer an opportunity to learn more about the comprehensive services offered in a relaxed setting, with refreshments provided.
For the past two years, Jessica Peters has been providing individualized occupational therapy to patients of all ages, helping them navigate daily life with a variety of challenges. her practice supports individuals recovering from falls, those with unsteady gait, school-aged children with developmental or learning differences, individuals with amputations, and many others. The addition of the gait school represents a notable expansion of her services, designed to empower patients to regain confidence and independence in their mobility.
The inspiration for the gait school stemmed from a personal experience during a vacation. Witnessing someone struggle with a prosthetic leg sparked a desire to provide specialized support. Peters later completed further training and invested in equipment like a parallel bar and running course to address these needs. “Many people fear they won’t be able to manage their everyday lives,” she explains. “I want to help them overcome that fear.”
The gait school will benefit not only those with prosthetics, but also seniors regaining stability after a fall or recovering from surgery. Training includes exercises on parallel bars, navigating varied surfaces and uneven floors, and practicing stair climbing.
Peters emphasizes a collaborative approach to therapy, tailoring solutions to each patient’s unique needs. She believes children are particularly insightful when it comes to identifying strategies that help them succeed. Working closely with teachers (through classroom observations) and parents, she implements solutions like small desk screens for children easily overstimulated, and hand trainers for those with high energy levels. “These tools help children remain engaged in school without needing to leave the classroom,” she notes. She also shares a helpful guideline for children’s concentration: a short break should be taken after a period of time equal to their age multiplied by two.
