Hurricane Gabrielle formed in the Atlantic Ocean, southeast of Bermuda,on Sunday, becoming the season’s eighth named storm. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) reports the system is generating swells that will impact Bermuda and the U.S. east Coast from North Carolina northward in the coming days.
While Gabrielle is not currently forecast to directly impact land, its path and the resulting ocean swells pose a threat to coastal areas. The NHC predicts the system will turn northward Monday and accelerate east-northeastward on Tuesday. Irrespective of its exact track, perilous swells are expected to continue affecting Bermuda and the U.S. coastline.
