Fuyao Glass America Fire: Moraine Firefighters Respond to Blaze

March 23, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A large fire erupted at the Fuyao Glass America plant in Moraine, Ohio, Sunday night, triggering a substantial emergency response from multiple area fire departments. The blaze, first reported around 8:30 p.m., sent flames shooting from the roof of the automotive glass manufacturing facility, visible for miles, according to local reports.

Fuyao Glass America confirmed the incident in a statement, stating that employees immediately initiated the company’s emergency response plan and were safely evacuated. First responders were promptly notified. “We will provide additional updates as we learn more but we are grateful that our employees are safe and for the professional, dedicated and quick support from local fire services,” the company said.

Firefighters battled the blaze for hours, hampered by high winds and intermittent lightning strikes, which temporarily suspended aerial ladder operations. Moraine Fire Marshal Doug Hatcher stated that the fire originated on the roof of a newer section of the plant, where manufacturing lines were still being installed. As of midnight Monday morning, crews had not yet entered the building, as the fire remained largely contained to the roof, fueled by roofing materials.

The Fuyao plant, established in 2015, occupies a site previously home to a General Motors assembly plant. It has since expanded to over one million square feet, with an additional 600,000 square feet of production capacity added in 2025, making it the World’s Largest Auto Glass manufacturing site, according to the company. Fuyao supplies glass to major automotive manufacturers including General Motors, Ford, BMW, Honda, and Bentley.

No injuries to fire crews or employees were reported as of late Sunday night. Residents in nearby areas reported seeing thick black smoke and smelling a strong chemical odor. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
