Trent Reznor‘s Future Ruins festival, a highly anticipated event promising a convergence of film and music, has been canceled, organizers announced thursday. The festival, slated for 2025, was too feature performances and appearances by Reznor and Atticus Ross, alongside a lineup including Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh, horror composer John Carpenter, Hildur Guðnadóttir, and Questlove.
The cancellation stems from “a number of logistical challenges and complications,” according to a statement posted by the festival on Twitter. Organizers stated they felt unable to deliver the experience they had envisioned and are issuing full refunds to ticket holders. “Rather than compromise, we’re choosing to re-think and re-evaluate,” the statement read. “We are sorry for any inconvenience and appreciate all the interest and support.”
Future Ruins aimed to showcase a powerful lineup across three stages, blending film scores with live musical performances. Reznor and Ross were scheduled to perform selections from their extensive film and TV catalog, including work on Watchmen, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Empire of Light, Waves, Want, and The Killer.
the festival’s planned roster also included Oscar-winning joker composer Hildur Guðnadóttir and Questlove, who intended to perform film scores by Curtis Mayfield. mothersbaugh, known for his work with Devo and frequent collaborations with director Wes Anderson, was also set to appear.
The cancellation follows the recent launch of Nine Inch Nails’ ”Peel It Back” tour-their first live shows since 2022-which began with European dates in June and July and continued with a North American leg starting in August.
Ticket holders will receive an email with further facts regarding their refunds, according to the festival’s statement. The full cancellation statement is available on Twitter: https://twitter.com/RuinsFestival/status/1974202796531724513
