FRESNO COUNTY, Calif. - A member of the California Army National Guard died Sunday morning in a single-vehicle crash in the Fresno County foothills. David Solomon, identified by friends as the victim, was pronounced dead at the scene.
the crash occurred around 9 a.m. on Tollhouse Road near Van vleet. California Highway Patrol officers and Cal Fire crews responded to find Solomon’s vehicle overturned in a creek bed with a crushed roof, trapping him inside.Emergency personnel used the Jaws of Life to extricate him, but life-saving efforts were unsuccessful. this loss impacts the tight-knit community of first responders and the California Military Department, and an investigation is underway to determine the cause of the accident.
Solomon served with the California Army National Guard and was also contracted with Cal Fire, assisting in wildfire response across the state. A procession of first responders escorted his body from the crash site to the Fresno County Coroner’s Office.
The California Military Department released a statement expressing their grief: “We are heartbroken by this loss. Our thoughts are with the family,loved ones,and the Guardsmen and CAL FIRE leadership of the Toll House crew the Soldier left behind.”
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal crash,and a cause has not yet been persistent.
