French Driver to Compete in European Clio Cup Championship 2024

March 30, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

French racing driver Cyril Melet is preparing to compete in the Renault Clio Cup, beginning with the Coupes de Pâques at Nogaro from April 4th to 6th. The move represents a significant step for Melet, who has participated in a variety of motorsport disciplines since 1995, including karting, Legend Cars, and MitJet 2l racing.

Melet recently completed two racing engagements in Spain last year at Jarama and Barcelona, driving a Clio. He expressed confidence in his ability to perform well, stating he didn’t feel as old as he anticipated during those races. He will be racing with the support of Nicolas Milan, a well-known figure in the discipline, and within Milan’s established racing structure.

The Renault Clio Cup season will consist of seven European races, including circuits at Paul Ricard, Magny Cours, Mugello in Italy, Spa in Belgium, Navarra in Spain, and Portimao in Portugal, concluding in early November. The series emphasizes equal machinery, with competition decided primarily by driver skill and the quality of the racing team.

Melet, who is licensed through the ASA Militaire under the leadership of Jean-Bernard Lacoste, will necessitate to balance speed and strategic decision-making during the races, which are expected to be highly competitive. He aims to score points and achieve podium finishes throughout the season. According to Melet, “The slightest detail counts. I desire to enjoy myself, score points and do my best to reach the podiums.”

The GRID Legends racing game features a Renault Clio Cup car, categorized within the ‘Touring’ vehicle class, alongside other vehicles like the Peugeot 208 and TwinCup [1]. The game categorizes vehicles into nine classes, with three difficulty levels unlocked throughout the career mode [1].

Elsewhere in motorsport, young driver Phoenyx Kimball recently transitioned from Bandoleros to Legend Cars, racing a uniquely painted car with green flames [3]. Kimball is also involved in motorsports conferences like Women with Drive and participates in NASCAR events [3].
