St. Petersburg and Red Cross to Offer Free Smoke Alarms in High-Risk Neighborhood

ST. PETERSBURG, FL – February 21, 2026 – Residents of the Harbordale neighborhood in St. Petersburg will have the opportunity to receive free smoke alarm installations and fire safety education tomorrow, February 22, 2026, thanks to a partnership between the City of St. Petersburg and the American Red Cross.

The event will be held from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Frank Pierce Recreation Center, located at 2000 7th Street South.

According to the American Red Cross, the Harbordale Neighborhood ranks 6th in Pinellas County and 49th in the State of Florida for risk of home fires. The organization assesses neighborhood fire risk based on the frequency of past fires, proximity to fire stations, and socio-economic indicators.

Working smoke alarms are critical for fire safety, potentially giving occupants as little as two minutes to escape a house fire. Smoke alarms increase the chances of safe evacuation and provide early detection of fires.

The American Red Cross of Central Florida serves Hillsborough and Pinellas counties, with a local office located at 818 4th St. N in St. Petersburg. Those affected by home fires or other disasters can contact the Red Cross 24 hours a day at 1-800-RED-CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
