California Farmers Invited to Free Agrivoltaics Events This Fall
DAVIS,CA – October 7,2024 – California farmers seeking innovative strategies to enhance farm viability and reduce operational costs can now register for a series of free events hosted by American Farmland Trust (AFT) this fall. The workshops will focus on agrivoltaics – the simultaneous use of land for agricultural production and solar energy generation - and are designed to equip farmers with the knowledge needed to explore its potential benefits.
Agrivoltaics is gaining traction as a crucial approach to balancing clean energy production with the preservation of valuable farmland. these events come at a critical time for California agriculture, as farmers face increasing challenges from drought, rising energy prices, and the need for long-term sustainability. AFT’s initiative aims to empower farmers to leverage agrivoltaics for water conservation, reduced energy expenses, and strengthened farm resilience, contributing to a more secure future for California’s food systems.
The four events, offered at no cost, will provide practical insights into implementing agrivoltaics on farms. Topics will cover everything from assessing site suitability and navigating financing options to understanding potential impacts on crop yields and livestock grazing. The AgriSolar Clearinghouse will provide photography and expertise.
