A Madhya pradesh Hospital Forgoes Fees & Offers Gifts for Newborn daughters
Burhanpur, India - In a unique initiative aimed at challenging societal biases and supporting the Indian government’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” (Save the Daughter, Educate the Daughter) campaign, Precious Life Care Hospital in burhanpur district, madhya Pradesh, has been offering free childbirth and gifts to parents of newborn girls for the past six years.
The program, running during the sharadiya and Chaitra Navratri festivals, waives all delivery fees – whether the birth is via Cesarean section or natural delivery – for families welcoming daughters. Hospital administrators state the intention is to actively promote the value of girls within the community.
“We want to contribute to a shift in perspective,” a hospital spokesperson explained. “The birth of a daughter should be celebrated, not seen as a financial burden.”
The initiative has already benefited 43 families, regardless of caste or religious background.Normal deliveries typically cost between 20,000 and 25,000 rupees (approximately $240-$300 USD), while Cesarean sections range from 40,000 to 50,000 rupees ($480-$600 USD).Precious Life Care Hospital absorbs these costs entirely, and additionally provides gifts to the new parents.
While challenges surrounding gender equality and the financial strain of childbirth remain widespread in India, this hospital’s commitment offers a localized example of positive change and a tangible demonstration of support for families choosing to embrace the joy of raising daughters.
