Odell Beckham Jr. has been reinstated by the NFL after serving a six-game suspension for violating the league’s performance-enhancing drug policy, the league announced Tuesday. Beckham accepted the suspension in October despite maintaining he was unaware he had taken any banned substance.
The reinstatement makes the free-agent wide receiver eligible to sign with any team promptly. Beckham, who turned 33 earlier this month, appeared in nine games for the Miami Dolphins last season, recording nine receptions for 55 yards. Prior to that, in 2023, he played 14 games with the baltimore Ravens, totaling 35 catches for 565 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Injuries have impacted Beckham’s career trajectory as a promising start with the New York Giants in 2014. He previously addressed retirement rumors earlier this year, emphatically denying them on X, stating, “Plz stop reading everything on the internet, and stop texting me happy retirement b4 u piss me off 😭😭😭. That will get no response. I promise u the day I’m done I will let u kno.”
Drafted by the Giants as a first-round pick, Beckham quickly gained recognition for a impressive catch against the Dallas Cowboys on “Sunday Night Football” during his rookie season, finishing the game with 10 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns. He surpassed 1,300 receiving yards and scored at least 10 touchdowns in each of his first three NFL seasons.
However, since his third season,Beckham has not exceeded 77 receptions or 1,052 receiving yards in a single season, even when healthy. Over his 10 NFL seasons, he has accumulated 575 receptions for 7,987 yards and 59 touchdowns, earning three Pro Bowl selections. Beckham could provide a boost to a team’s receiving corps if he can remain healthy.
