Frederik Peeters: Geneva’s BD Master Exhibited in Yverdon

An exhibition dedicated to the perform of Geneva-based comic artist Frederik Peeters opened Tuesday at the Maison d’Ailleurs museum in Yverdon-les-Bains, Switzerland. “Inside Peeters” showcases over 220 original works, sketches, and notebooks spanning the artist’s two-decade career.

Peeters, 51, has become a leading figure in the world of bande dessinée, known for his versatility across genres including science fiction, fantasy, and autofiction. The exhibition is structured around seven thematic modules, offering insight into both Peeters’ artistic process and the history of the medium itself, according to museum officials.

The artist first gained recognition in 2001 with “Pilules bleues” (Blue Pills), a graphic novel detailing life with HIV. The work was translated into numerous languages and adapted into a film. The exhibition features a range of Peeters’ subsequent projects, including the poetic world of “Koma,” created with Pierre Wazem, and the ecological epic “Aâma.”

“Inside Peeters” also highlights the artist’s contributions to cinema. Peeters collaborated with director Thomas Cailley on the 2023 film “Le Règne animal” (The Animal Kingdom), creating preparatory drawings to define the visual appearance of the film’s hybrid human-animal creatures. The exhibition includes a dedicated module demonstrating how Peeters’ artistic techniques and imagination informed the film’s aesthetic.

A unique element of the exhibition is the inclusion of original artwork from “Claquedent,” a comic currently in progress. Visitors will have the opportunity to view preliminary sketches and panels, offering a glimpse into the development of a bande dessinée from conception to completion.

The exhibition runs until January 3, 2027.
