Curtis revealed to the BBC that the idea for the sequel originated with her, and she recently approached disney to express her readiness to create it. The two-decade wait, she explained, was necessary to ensure Lohan was “old enough to have a 15-year-old child in the film.”
The enduring bond between Curtis and Lohan was highlighted by Curtis, who stated that their friendship has remained strong sence their initial collaboration.”We’ve been united all the away from her teens to her twenties and just recently she bought her baby to meet me in LA,” Curtis shared, emphasizing her commitment to being a supportive figure for young actors she works with.
Curtis believes the film’s central themes of understanding and sympathy are particularly relevant in today’s world. “Understanding is in short supply right now in the world and this film shows that if you can experience each other’s life then maybe you will find some common ground with each other,” she commented. She also noted that the film, while entertaining, delves into the global feeling of loss, which fosters empathy.
Joining Lohan and Curtis in the sequel are Chad Michael Murray, reprising his role as Jake, and newcomer Julia Butters, who will play Lohan’s daughter.
The “Freaky Friday” sequel is part of a broader trend of follow-up films being announced and released, with recent examples including a “Bend it like Beckham” sequel and anticipation for a “Devil Wears Prada” continuation.
“Freakier Friday” is scheduled for release on Friday, August 8.
