TNA World Champion Frankie Kazarian Awaits Approval for Dream Match with AJ Styles
Newly crowned TNA World champion Frankie Kazarian is hoping to finalize a highly anticipated singles match against wrestling veteran AJ Styles, but the bout hinges on approval from a currently unnamed individual. Kazarian won the title from Mike Santana on the November 13th live edition of IMPACT!, and promptly set his sights on a clash with Styles.
Speaking on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Kazarian revealed both he and Styles have expressed interest in the match for months. “AJ and myself have both kind of put it out there over the last few months that he’s ready to go,I’m ready to go,” Kazarian stated. ”We just basically need one or two guys to sign off on it.” The potential match carries notable weight as Styles is nearing retirement, and Kazarian believes it would be a fitting culmination to both their careers and long-standing friendship.
This match would be particularly meaningful given Styles’ legacy within TNA – he was the first wrestler in company history to achieve the grand Slam. Kazarian’s recent championship win now makes him the sixth to accomplish the feat. “AJ,there’s nobody I respect more, there’s nobody I’m a bigger fan of,and with his history in this company and with me now being the guy here, the stakes just went up,” Kazarian explained. “So this match could mean even more than it would have.”
Kazarian emphasized the desire from fans to see the match come to fruition. “More importantly, the fans want it to happen, and look, that’s what we’re in the business of, of giving the fans what they want, and giving the fans what they want one more time becuase AJ’s hanging it up.” He expressed hope that the final hurdle will be cleared, allowing the match to happen. “We’re waiting on one guy to sign off and I hope that guy does sign off on it as that would be a great button on not only our - both of our careers but our friendship.”
