FranceS Under-20s Advance too World Cup Semi-Finals wiht 2-1 Victory Over Norway
The French Under-20 team continued their impressive run at the World Cup, securing a 2-1 win against Norway and advancing to the semi-finals where thay will face Morocco.
After a nail-biting round of 16 clash decided by a late penalty,Bernard Diomède’s squad enjoyed a more controlled performance in their quarter-final match against Norway. while needing a penalty in extra time to defeat Japan previously, the French team confidently overcame the Norwegians with a 2-1 result.
The arrival of Saïmon Bouabré earlier in the week has proven a significant boost for the team. diomède commented on Bouabré’s development, stating, “He was the little kid in 2024. Now he has a different status and responsibilities to shoulder.” The player, who moved from AS Monaco to Noem SC in Saudi Arabia last summer, proved instrumental in securing France‘s qualification.
The Saint-Étienne native scored both of France’s goals. He opened the scoring in the 19th minute after a through ball left him one-on-one with the Norwegian goalkeeper. Shortly after the 30th minute mark, Bouabré doubled the lead with a well-placed half-volley into the side net, following a header from noham Kamara off a cross from the left.
Despite holding a two-goal advantage at halftime, France continued to press the Norwegian goal, creating further opportunities without finding the back of the net. Norway managed to pull one back in the 83rd minute through Rasmus Holten, making for a tense final stretch. however, the French team successfully defended their lead.
This semi-final appearance marks france’s first in an Under-20 World cup since 2013, when the team, featuring Paul Pogba, were crowned champions. They will now face Morocco, who upset the United States with a 3-1 victory. The other semi-final will see Argentina take on Colombia.
