French TV Ratings Plummet: France 2’s “8 pm” Hits Record Low
PARIS - France 2’s flagship 8 p.m. news program, “8 pm” with Léa Salamé, reached its lowest viewership ever on Wednesday, falling below 3 million viewers for the first time as its launch. The program garnered 2.86 million viewers (13.6% audience share), according to Mediamétrie data released Thursday.This decline signals a broader shift in French television consumption habits and intensifies competition for primetime audiences.
The drop in viewership for “8 pm” comes amid fluctuating ratings for other news and talk shows. On TMC, the latter portion of ”Daily” maintained stable viewership while achieving a slight increase in audience share, though its PDA (Portée Quotidienne Associée) decreased to 9.5% (-0.5 points from the previous day). Yann Barthès’s talk show saw its best audience share since the start of the school year, increasing by 1 point. Meanwhile,Cyril Hanouna’s show on W9 was surpassed by its competitor in all audience segments,despite a slight increase in viewership (+0.2 points).
Elsewhere, “C to you, the continuation” on France 5 attracted over 1 million viewers and 5% PDA, just 0.1 point shy of its season best.”28 minutes” on Arte equaled its highest audience share as the start of the school year. “Aside” was not broadcast on Canal+ due to Europa League coverage.
Soap opera ratings remained relatively stable, with “Household Scenes” on M6 drawing 2.11 million viewers (11.2%) and “A SI Grand Soleil” on France 3 attracting 2.21 million viewers (11.8%). ”Plus belle la vie, even more lovely” on TF1 series films reached 226,000 viewers (1.2%).
Reality TV continued to struggle, with “La Villa des Cœurs shattered” on TFX hitting a season low of 206,000 viewers (1.1%).”An almost perfect dinner” on Gulli also saw a decline, reaching 118,000 viewers (0.6%).
