Fourteen Meters of Colorado Fir Arrived on Bernau’s Market Square Wednesday Morning, Hoisted
Bernau Sets Christmas Tree Ahead of Market and Ice Rink Setup
Fourteen meters of Colorado fir arrived on Bernau’s market square Wednesday morning, hoisted into place before the holiday season officially begins.
Municipal forestry workers spent roughly four hours felling, transporting, and securing the tree outside the Historic Town Hall, the city of Bernau reported. A police-escorted flatbed brought the fresh evergreen from the forest to the market square at about 9:30 a.m. Workers used a crane to guide the conifer into its sleeve before stabilizing it with wedges and trimming the lower branches.
Schedule and Decorations for the Market Square
Planning for the winter festivities requires an early start despite potential public reactions, according to city officials. The one or the other will certainly shake their heads because we are already ushering in the Christmas season,
Head of the Cultural Office Franziska Radom said, the city of Bernau reported.
Since decorating the tree and building the ice rink take a certain amount of time, the Christmas tree has to be set up this early.
Crews will wrap 3 kilometers of string lights around the branches and mount the traditional star in the coming days. Workers will construct the real ice rink directly around the tree starting in the weeks ahead. A formal opening ceremony featuring music, moderation, and figure skaters is scheduled for Monday, November 23, at 4 p.m.
Following the ice rink launch, crews will build the remaining festival grounds for the Bernau Christmas Market. The market officially opens Friday, December 4, at 3 p.m. when Knecht Ruprecht arrives by carriage. The festive site remains open daily until December 13.
