Latvia’s Competition Council Chairman Race Enters Second Round
Four Candidates Advance in Selection Process
The search for Latvia’s next Competition Council (KP) Chairman has narrowed, with four out of five applicants successfully progressing to the second stage of the open competition. This pivotal role influences the nation’s economic landscape.
Candidates Face Next Assessment Phase
Following an initial review of submitted documents and eligibility checks, the selection committee will now assess the remaining candidates on their motivation, vision for fair competition in Latvia, and ability to answer committee inquiries. This follows a three-round selection process.
Final Round to Gauge Leadership Acumen
The ultimate round will scrutinize candidates’ management capabilities. This includes evaluating strategic foresight, results orientation, decision-making skills, accountability, change management, and team leadership potential. The committee aims to identify the most suitable individual for this influential position.
Ministerial Recommendation and Compensation Revealed
The applicant with the highest cumulative score will be recommended to the Minister of Economy. While the minister is not bound to forward this recommendation, the process concludes with a potential appointment to a role offering a gross monthly salary of 4,883 euros. The Chairman will also champion free and fair competition domestically and represent Latvia internationally within European and global networks.
Selection Committee Members Announced
The evaluation commission is chaired by Raivis Kronbergs, Director of the State Chancellery. Other members include Raivis Bremšmits, Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economics; Acting State Secretary Edijs Šaicāns; Andra Feldmane, Advisor on entrepreneurship for the Latvian Union of Local Governments; and Jānis Lielpēteris, Board Member of the Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Kaspars Gorkšs, Director General of the Latvian Employers’ Confederation, will serve as an independent observer, ensuring a thorough and impartial assessment.
As of 2023, Latvia’s annual GDP growth stood at 2.4%, underscoring the importance of a robust Competition Council in maintaining a healthy economic environment (Eurostat).
