Four people died and several others sustained injuries in a series of separate road collisions across counties Wexford, Limerick, Meath, and Waterford on Sunday, according to reports from An Garda Síochána and emergency services.
Fatal Wexford Motorcycle Collision
In County Wexford, a motorcyclist in his 50s died following a collision between his bike and a van on the R736 near Wellington Bridge, according to RTÉ and The Irish Times. Gardaí and emergency services responded to the incident shortly before 3.15pm. The driver of the van did not require immediate hospital treatment. The route remained closed on Sunday evening to allow for a technical examination by Garda forensic specialists, with local diversions in place.
Single-Vehicle Crash in Adare
Earlier Sunday morning at approximately 2.40am, a man in his 20s died when the car he was driving struck a tree on the N21 at Cummeen, Adare, County Limerick, according to The Irish Times and the Irish Independent. The victim’s body was transferred to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick for a postmortem examination. Two male passengers in the vehicle were also hospitalized.
Meath Car Impact
In County Meath, a man in his 50s died after his car crashed into a premises on Connaught Street in Athboy at approximately 2am on Sunday, according to Northern Sound and The Irish Times. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was brought to the mortuary at Our Lady’s Hospital in Navan for a postmortem. The location was closed off for a technical examination, prompting local traffic arrangements.
Waterford Bus and Car Incident
The crash occurred shortly before 8pm. The driver of the car was pronounced dead at the scene, while several passengers from the bus were transported to hospital for treatment for injuries understood to be non-life-threatening. The stretch of road remained closed pending examination by Garda technical specialists.
An Garda Síochána has appealed for witnesses to come forward regarding each of the collisions. Authorities have specifically requested that motorists who traversed the relevant locations around the times of the crashes make any available dashcam or camera footage accessible to investigating stations.
