Downtown Fort Pierce to Receive $10.25 Million in Major Infrastructure Upgrades

The reconstruction will include a 10-foot wide sidewalk on the east side of Indian⁤ River​ Drive and⁤ a 6-foot wide sidewalk on the west side, along with enhanced lighting to⁢ improve ⁣pedestrian safety. ⁢Approximately 25 ⁣new on-street parking spaces will be added to address a long-standing concern among residents and visitors.

Funding for⁢ the project ‌is sourced from a combination of state and local​ revenue streams, including a $2.7 million Florida Commerce grant and a $3⁤ million contribution from the Fort Pierce ‌Redevelopment Agency. The remaining $4.55 ‌million will come from‍ Road Impact ⁤Fees, paid by ‌developers, and Half-Cent Infrastructure⁣ Surtax Funds, approved‌ by​ county voters in 2018.
