Formula 1® Streamlines Global Race Operations with PwC Collaboration, Aiming for Sustainability and Resilience
LONDON – Formula 1® is revamping its complex global race operations, partnering with PwC to optimize logistics and reduce its environmental footprint as the sport travels nearly 1,000,000 miles worldwide each year. The collaboration focuses on creating smarter workflows for asset lifecycle management and increasing operational resilience, marking a significant step towards a more enduring future for the racing series.
This initiative addresses the immense logistical challenge of running a global motorsport operation, encompassing everything from camera towers and fiber networks to timing systems and signage. By collaborating with PwC, Formula 1® aims to move beyond conventional, resource-intensive practices and embrace innovative solutions that minimize waste and maximize efficiency. The partnership’s success could set a new standard for sustainability within the high-stakes world of motorsports and offer valuable insights for other large-scale event organizers.
“I’ve been on a special gig with PwC at Formula One races to learn about the side of the sport that has a massive impact on its success but rarely gets talked about,” shared an individual involved in the project. “Race operations…to get the race on TV and surface all the telemetry, there’s a dedicated team.”
PwC teams worked directly with Formula 1® leadership, developing workflows to optimize asset utilization. A key strategy involves reducing reliance on a limited number of equipment sets that travel to each race, instead exploring a system where sets can “leapfrog” each other, ensuring continuous coverage while minimizing transportation needs. This approach not only reduces the sport’s carbon footprint but also enhances the reliability of race operations.
The case study detailing this collaboration is now available, offering a deeper dive into the strategies employed and the potential impact on the future of Formula 1®. It highlights how complex operational problems can be solved through strategic partnerships and a commitment to innovation.
