Late Model star Bachor Makes Formula V6 BRL Debut at Zandvoort
Zandvoort, Netherlands - Late Model driver Andreas Bachor recently made a guest start in the Formula V6 BRL series at the Zandvoort circuit, experiencing a significant performance difference between the open-wheel cars and his usual oval racing machinery.
Bachor noted a substantial gap developed as the race progressed, even catching the back of the field. “I think on the last lap I just caught up with the last Westfield and was almost on the last Formula car,” he said.
While initially challenging, Bachor found the subsequent races increasingly rewarding as he pushed his limits. He was notably impressed by the speed and braking capabilities of the Formula cars, stating, “I have too say about formula driving itself: a great experience.” He reported speeds of “around 240 to 250 kilometers per hour heading into curve 1” and described the braking performance as remarkable, feeling “that the car stopped after braking for 50 meters. It’s amazing what the cars can do in Turn 1 when the tire temperature is right.”
Driving the slower vehicles presented a different set of difficulties. “It’s arduous to drive vehicles that are ten to 15 seconds slower per lap,” Bachor explained, adding that maintaining position without disrupting the race and avoiding deviations from the ideal racing line for overtakes impacted lap times.
Bachor acknowledged pushing too hard on some corners, resulting in trips through the gravel trap, but viewed these as valuable learning experiences. He remains undecided about repeating the experience due to scheduling conflicts with his V8 Oval series commitments.
“But it was a unique experience. That’s why I did it; I thought it had to be great, and it was,” Bachor concluded. He recommends the experience to drivers with prior racing experience, emphasizing the cars’ speed and handling but cautioning,”But if you don’t have everything under control, you can quickly shoot yourself down.”
