Forest Fire Burns in La Primavera Forest: Jalisco Authorities Respond

March 23, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

A wildfire is burning in the Los Asadores area within the La Primavera Forest in the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, Jalisco, as of Sunday afternoon, March 22, 2026. Approximately 56 firefighters and personnel from the Tlajomulco municipal Coordination of Civil Protection and Firefighters are responding to the blaze.

The Jalisco State Unit of Civil Protection and Firefighters reported that its personnel, along with brigades from the National Forestry Commission (Conafor), are supporting municipal efforts to control and extinguish the fire. The incident was first reported around 1:00 PM local time and no injuries have been reported.

Authorities are urging the public to allow free passage for emergency vehicles and to stay informed through official channels. The fire has prompted the activation of an atmospheric alert in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area due to the potential for smoke inhalation, according to the Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development. Residents are advised to use face masks if venturing outdoors, avoid strenuous physical activity, and keep windows closed.

The La Primavera Forest has experienced a high frequency of wildfires in recent years. According to data from the Statistical Report on Fire Management of the Secretariat of Environment and Territorial Development and the La Primavera Forest OPD, 474 forest fires have been recorded within the protected area between 2018 and June 2025. An estimated nine out of ten fires are attributed to human activity.

In 2025 alone, 53 forest fires were recorded in the La Primavera forest, affecting 1,967 hectares. Authorities also reported 50 cases of irregular invasions within the protected zone over the past five years, with 19 cases occurring in 2025.

Due to the smoke drifting towards residential areas near Avenida López Mateos, local authorities are recommending residents close doors and windows and place wet towels along the bottom of entrances to block smoke. They also advise staying hydrated and paying close attention to vulnerable populations, including children, the elderly, and individuals with respiratory illnesses.

As of Monday, March 23, 2026, the fire remains active, and authorities have not announced a containment or extinguishment timeline.
