Ford Recalls Over 740,000 Vehicles Due to Safety Concerns
DEARBORN, MI – Ford Motor Company is recalling more than 740,000 vehicles across multiple model lines due to defects affecting rearview cameras, steering systems, and seatbelts, the National Highway Traffic Safety Management (NHTSA) announced this week. The recalls impact vehicles ranging from 2015-2021 model years, raising concerns about driver visibility, vehicle control, and passenger safety.
The largest of the recalls involves over 485,000 vehicles-specifically, certain 2020-2023 Ford Explorer, Bronco Sport, and Lincoln Corsair models-due to a potential issue with the rearview camera display. NHTSA stated the software problem can cause the camera image to malfunction when the vehicle is in reverse. A similar issue prompted a recall of over 200,000 vehicles in July. Additionally,115,539 Super Duty trucks (2020-2021 F-250 SD,F-350 SD,and F-450 SD models) are being recalled due to a potential loss of steering control caused by the steering column upper shaft detaching. A third recall covers 332,778 Ford vehicles, including certain 2015-2017 Mustang models, where corroded seatbelt cables could break, compromising passenger restraint in a crash.
Ford is addressing the rearview camera issue with a software update. Dealers will inspect and repair or replace the steering column upper shaft on Super Duty trucks free of charge. For the Mustang recall, dealers will inspect and replace the front seat belt cables. Owners of affected vehicles are being notified, with remedy letters expected to be mailed throughout October and November.
The NHTSA notice, dated September 23, states dealers will inspect the steering column and repair or replace the upper shaft as necessary, free of charge. Letters notifying owners of the steering risk were mailed October 6, 2025, with a final remedy anticipated by December 2025. The seatbelt recall notices are expected to be sent this month, with a final solution reached by January.
