Food safety security: media invited to get involved in risk prevention – SOLEIL.SN

Food Security Concerns Prompt Urgent Action

Recent events have spurred an increased focus on food security, with a series of initiatives underway to tackle potential risks to the public. Journalists are being trained to better understand and report on crucial issues within the food supply chain.

Training for Journalists

In the city of Thiès, journalists are receiving training in food safety. The goal is to ensure they have the knowledge to effectively communicate risks. This will allow them to educate the public on the dangers. The goal is for the public to make informed decisions.

“African governments must be more ambitious and carry out the necessary reforms.”

Ndiamé Diop, World Bank

Globally, roughly 3.1 billion people cannot afford a healthy diet (WHO 2024).

Further Initiatives

The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) is also involved, with Dr. Mamadou Ndiaye calling for multisectoral action. The FAO is working to equip journalists with the tools needed to lessen these risks. These initiatives highlight a coordinated effort to address food safety.
