Fly Rotterdam & Kinderdijk in Microsoft Flight Simulator Update
Rotterdam and Kinderdijk, Netherlands, are now meticulously rendered in 3D within Microsoft Flight Simulator, following the release of “City Update 14” on March 21, 2026. The update, available free to owners of both Microsoft Flight Simulator (2020) and Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, replaces standard satellite imagery of the areas with detailed, custom-built models.
The release coincides with FlightSimWeekend (FSWeekend), a major flight simulation conference being held in Lelystad, Netherlands, from March 20-22, 2026. “City Update 14” includes high-fidelity TIN (triangulated irregular network) surface texturing for ten areas of interest across the Netherlands and Belgium.
Within Rotterdam, landmarks such as the Erasmus Bridge, Willems Bridge and the Markthal are now represented with increased realism. Players can also virtually navigate along the windmills of Kinderdijk. The update also includes detailed 3D representations of Amsterdam, Breukelen, Brielle, Eindhoven, and Utrecht in the Netherlands, as well as Brussels in Belgium.
Amsterdam, founded in 1275, is depicted with its canal ring – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – and its prominent role as a maritime trade hub. The update also reflects Amsterdam’s status as a technology center and its cycling culture. Breukelen is represented with its 17th-century estates and castles, including Nijenrode Castle.
Microsoft Flight Simulator has been investing in locally created city models to enhance the visual experience and better showcase recognizable landmarks worldwide. The update aims to provide a more immersive and accurate virtual flying experience over these regions.
