Flu Epidemic Declines in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region | France News
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region of France, along with Île-de-France, is among the first to officially exit the current influenza epidemic, according to the latest weekly bulletin from Santé publique France (SpF). All key indicators demonstrated a continued decline during the week of February 2nd to February 8th.
SOS Médecins reported a 25% decrease in consultations related to influenza, accounting for 10.7% of their overall activity. Incidence rates among cases seen by general practitioners also fell, from 263 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in week 5 to 216 cases per 100,000 in week 6.
Hospital data mirrored this trend, with a 30% reduction in emergency room visits across all age groups, and a corresponding decrease in hospitalizations following emergency department visits. SpF stated that the intensity level associated with flu-like syndromes is now considered “low.”
The influenza epidemic in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region lasted nine weeks. The period was marked by excess mortality throughout January, disproportionately affecting individuals aged 65 and older.
Santé publique France’s regional site in Lyon, established in 2016 following the consolidation of several national health agencies, plays a key role in monitoring and responding to public health threats in the region. The agency’s contact email is [email protected], and its telephone number is 01 41 79 67 00. The Lyon site is located at 241 rue Garibaldi, 69003 Lyon.
According to Santé publique France, the agency’s mission is to protect public health through epidemiological observation, risk monitoring, health promotion, prevention, and crisis management. The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes regional branch specifically focuses on adapting these national missions to the regional context, as evidenced by its recent bulletins on influenza, Legionnaires’ disease, suicide rates, and a chikungunya outbreak in Eybens.
A press release from December 11, 2025, highlighted the release of the 2024 edition of the Santé publique France barometer, which included previously unpublished regional data. The agency also issued a press release on November 24, 2025, regarding World AIDS Day and the importance of accessible testing.
