Flower Viewing & Farmers: Hong Kong’s Lunar New Year Traditions

February 14, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Workers at Zhang Lun Ji farm in Yuen Long were busy harvesting peach blossoms late into the night this week, transporting them to the Victoria Park flower market, according to a report by Yahoo News Hong Kong.

The farm, located in Lung Xia Tsuen, is one of a dwindling number of local farms supplying flowers for the Lunar New Year market. The report highlights the challenges faced by local farmers, who are dependent on both the weather and finding buyers willing to pay a fair price.

The Yahoo News report, published on February 14, 2026, featured reporting by Sin-lai Ting and photography by Cheung Chi-wah. It noted the proverb “Don’t cut the peach blossom, even a god cannot help,” reflecting the precariousness of the peach blossom trade.

Sin-lai Ting has also reported on Chartwell, the former home of Winston Churchill, noting the early apple harvest in Kent in October. She also authored a piece on a painting gifted by Churchill to Franklin D. Roosevelt, and a recent article about a surprise appearance by An Sung-jae at the Victoria Park Lunar New Year fair, where he was seen enjoying street food for as little as $20.
