Fleur Agema, departing after seventeen years as a Member of Parliament for the Party for Freedom (PVV), publicly acknowledged a conflict with party leader Geert Wilders during a live television interview last night. The admission follows weeks of speculation sparked by comments made on Prinsjesdag.
Agema’s decision not to seek re-election initially lacked a clear clarification, but she later confirmed to Powned that disagreements with Wilders played a role. The tension between the two figures raises questions about the internal dynamics of the PVV as it prepares for upcoming elections and the potential future direction of the party. Agema served as vice-chair and Deputy Prime Minister during her tenure.
During an appearance on Pauw & De Wit, host Jeroen Pauw directly questioned Agema about the nature of the dispute. Referencing a prior interview with Powned’s Sarah Bakker, Pauw pressed for details.
“This week I saw an interview on Prinsjesdag with Sarah Bakker… and take a look,” Pauw stated on the program.
Agema initially described nearly two decades of collaboration with Wilders as having been marked by “good harmony,” but conceded that this was no longer the case. When asked point-blank if a fight had occurred, she responded, “Of course, or else you won’t stop.”
Pressed further by Pauw to elaborate on the specifics of the conflict, Agema remained guarded. “I confirmed that to you here the night before?” she responded, before clarifying that she hadn’t explicitly stated a fight had taken place.
Ultimately, Agema declined to reveal details, stating, “Well, we have often had a bonje and made it well, but of course I have been vice-chair and Deputy Prime Minister for almost twenty years, so I am not going to tell what exactly happened… That doesn’t belong.”
