SG Flensburg-Handewitt reclaimed the top spot in the 2026/27 OPEL German Men’s Handball Bundesliga after defeating TSV Hannover-Burgdorf 39-32 at the ZAG Arena, according to an MK Sports report.

Flensburg Secures Away Victory to Retake Lead

Flensburg enters the standings at 7 wins, 1 draw, and 15 points following the victory in Hanover. TSV Hannover-Burgdorf dropped to 9th place with a record of 4 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses, marking their first home defeat of the season.

Flensburg established an early advantage behind defensive stops and fast breaks. Goalkeeper Simon Möller stopped 5 shots within the opening six minutes. Aymeric Minne, Domen Novak, and Emil Bergholt contributed to a 5-1 scoring run. Kent Robin Tønnesen added a score to push the margin to 7-2, and Simon Pytlick scored to stretch the lead to 11-5.

Hannover Attempts Second-Half Comeback

Hannover called its second timeout of the first half at the 21-minute mark as Marko Grgić scored from the right backcourt to make it 15-8. Möller notched his 10th save before Lasse Møller scored to extend the visitors’ lead to 17-9. Hannover trimmed the deficit before halftime, sending the teams into the break with Flensburg leading 20-16.

Hannover reduced the gap to 17-21 early in the second half. Minne answered with his 10th goal of the match to restore a 24-19 advantage and later finished a fast break to make it 27-21. Despite multiple sequences where Hannover pulled within four goals, Grgić scored consecutive late goals, including a 36-31 strike that extinguished the home side’s comeback bid. Flensburg extended the margin to 38-31 in the 58th minute before closing out the seven-goal win.
