Fix Facebook Messages: Can’t Send Messages to Friends

by Dr. Michael Lee – Health Editor

Users are reporting an inability to send messages to contacts on Facebook, prompting questions about potential disruptions to the platform’s messaging functionality. The issue appears to affect direct messages between individual users, with some reporting an inability to reach friends they have previously communicated with.

Facebook’s help resources indicate a limit of 150 recipients for sending a message to multiple friends simultaneously. Yet, the current reports suggest a more fundamental problem, with messages failing to deliver even to single recipients. The platform’s support documentation acknowledges that messages cannot be sent to users who have blocked the sender, either on Facebook or through Messenger.

While the cause of the disruption remains unclear, Facebook’s help center states that message delivery issues can be addressed by clicking next to the message that failed to send and checking account settings. The documentation does not elaborate on the specific settings that may resolve the issue, nor does it provide a timeline for resolution.

Facebook allows users to control who can send them messages directly to their chat list, with options including Facebook friends, individuals in the Marketplace, those using Facebook Dating, and businesses. These settings, however, can only be adjusted via a computer, according to Facebook’s help resources. The company has not issued a public statement acknowledging the widespread reports of message delivery failures as of Tuesday, February 17, 2026.
