MADISON, N.J. – The Drew University field hockey team secured a 3-0 victory over cross-town rival FDU-Florham Saturday evening in ranger Stadium, extending their winning streak and claiming the Battle of Madison Avenue for the second consecutive year.
The Rangers (6-1) achieved their best seven-game start since 2013 with the decisive win. This victory underscores Drew’s strong performance this season and solidifies their position as a competitive force in the region. The team will continue their non-conference schedule with a Wednesday matchup against Western Connecticut at 6 p.m.
Drew dominated the game, outshooting FDU-Florham 17-6, while senior goalkeeper Beth kelly recorded four saves for her second shutout of the season. FDU-Florham’s Adrianna Goodwin defended the goal with eight saves.
Emily Caporrino opened the scoring in the final minute of the first quarter, netting her sixth goal of the season after a series of passes involving Emma Rider, Karine Johnson, and Bella Fini.
Drew extended their lead late in the second quarter when Rider passed to Ellie Kopec, whose shot was tipped in by Johnson for her second goal of the season.
Bella Fini sealed the victory with 5:58 remaining, scoring her ninth goal of the season after intercepting a pass and maneuvering through FDU-Florham’s defense. Caporrino assisted on the play.
