August 13, 2026 Alex Carter - Sports Editor Sport

According to official impact data released by the organization, the FIBA Foundation’s “Basketball For Good” initiative successfully reached 376,000 individuals across 127 countries and five continents during 2025. Published on International Youth Day, the comprehensive impact report highlights the sport’s expanding role in youth empowerment, social inclusion, and community resilience worldwide through structured pillars like youth leadership, mini-basketball, and community impact projects.

Global Reach Across Five Continents

Data compiled within the official FIBA Foundation impact report shows that the initiative engaged more than 376,000 participants globally. This figure encompasses active youth, community leaders, and program partners operating across 127 countries.

The organization empowered 830 individual “Basketball For Good” changemakers over the course of the year. Furthermore, the foundation provided direct support to 608 distinct community projects tailored to address regional social challenges.

Integration with Elite International Competitions

A notable evolution in 2025 was the integration of grassroots community activations with marquee athletic events. According to the FIBA Foundation, Basketball For Good programming was integrated for the first time into all official FIBA continental competitions. Youth leaders extended these collaborative efforts through the summer calendar at various Youth EuroBaskets and the U16 Women’s Asia Cup.

This convergence aligns with the International Youth Day theme of “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations.” Young leaders deployed basketball-based frameworks to tackle distinct local obstacles, combining elite youth competition with social engagement initiatives.

Flagship Projects and World Basketball Day Celebrations

The foundation’s flagship “Propose A Project” platform achieved record engagement numbers during the operational year. The platform received and evaluated 73 distinct projects originating from 58 different countries.

To mark World Basketball Day 2025, organizers staged 43 dedicated Basketball For Good festivals across 33 countries. These festivals engaged more than 5,700 participants globally, utilizing play-based learning and structured community sessions. Programs aimed at children aged 5 to 12 years old remain central to the mini-basketball pillar, promoting physical well-being through structured play.

Operational Framework and Strategic Pillars

Launched originally in 2016, the initiative operates through three foundational pillars designed to foster long-term community development:
