Fenerbahce Wins Turkish Super Cup: Orro Leads Victory

Fenerbahce Istanbul Stuns VakifBank in Five-Set Thriller to ⁤Claim Turkish Super Cup

Fenerbahce ⁢Istanbul, ‍led by recent world Cup winner Alessia ‌Orro, completed a ⁢dramatic 3-2 comeback victory (23-25, ⁤21-25,‍ 25-19, 25-18, 18-16) over VakifBank⁤ Istanbul⁢ to secure their sixth Turkish Super Cup title. The win marks‌ Orro’s ‌official debut with ⁣Fenerbahce‍ after friendlies played in recent weeks.

The comeback was fueled by stellar performances from Russian ‌spiker Arina Fedorovtseva ⁤(25 points) and Turkish⁢ bomber ⁤Melissa ‌Vargas (25 ⁢points,⁣ named MVP), alongside‌ 4 crucial points orchestrated by​ orro. ⁤fenerbahce coach Marcello Abbondanza also ⁤effectively utilized central players Agnieszka Korneluk ⁣(11 ‌points) and ​Hande Baladin (8 ⁣points), with Asli kalac adding 6.

Orro’s triumph represents her ‌first club-level championship​ in four years, following CEV Cup victories with Busto Arsizio in 2019 and Monza (later Milan) in 2021.

Despite ‌a strong showing from VakifBank, coached by Giovanni Guiddetti,⁣ the team faltered​ despite 25 points from⁣ Serbian opposite Tijana Boskovic – returning⁣ from a world Cup injury – and‌ 20 ​points from French ‍spiker Helena Cazaute, both recent ⁢additions to ​the ⁤club.

The Turkish ⁢league season‌ begins this weekend, with Fenerbahce ‌visiting Aras Kargo on Sunday, October 12th, and VakifBank traveling to Zeren Spor on Saturday, October 11th.
