Nuremberg coach Michael Klose‘s position with the club is under scrutiny following a controversial handball decision in a recent match, according to former German referee of the year, Manuel Gräfe. Gräfe stated the call was a “clear handball” and speculated it could lead to Klose’s dismissal.
The disputed call occurred during a match where a favorable ruling could have altered the game’s outcome, but midfielder Tim Drexler dismissed the incident as an excuse for his team’s performance.Drexler emphasized the team’s lack of energy was the primary factor in the defeat, stating, “It would have changed the game, but we don’t wont to put it on the referee. He did a good job, we didn’t. It was not because of that.”
Gräfe’s comments, made in 2011, resurfaced as pressure mounts on Klose, whose future with the club remains uncertain. The incident highlights the significant impact refereeing decisions can have on coaches and clubs in professional football.
