FC Bayern Women Defeat PSG 3-1 in Champions League Clash at the Prinzenpark
PARIS, FRANCE – FC Bayern Women continued their impressive champions league form with a decisive 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Prinzenpark on Wednesday. The Munich side demonstrated resilience, responding quickly to an early PSG goal and ultimately securing a crucial win in the fourth game of the league phase.
After falling behind to a 16th-minute strike from Sakina karchaoui, Linda Dallmann leveled the score just a minute later in the 17th minute. Momoko Tanikawa than put Bayern ahead in the 34th minute, scoring a powerful goal that goalkeeper mary Earps could not prevent from deflecting under the crossbar. Jovana Damnjanovic sealed the victory with a goal in the 89th minute, bringing the final score to 3-1.
The win comes on the heels of a dramatic 3-2 victory against defending champions Arsenal FC, and boosts Bayern’s chances of reaching the play-offs and possibly securing direct qualification for the quarter-finals, according to coach José Barcala.
PSG entered the match under pressure, having failed to earn a point in their frist three league phase games. Despite a strong start from Bayern, Karchaoui capitalized on space created with a physical deception against Franziska Kett, scoring from 15 meters.
Though, Bayern responded instantly through Dallmann, and continued to dominate play. Tanikawa’s goal showcased her skill, faking a shot before powerfully driving past Elisa De Almeida and Olga Carmona.
The second half saw Bayern nearly extend their lead early, with Klara Bühl’s 48th-minute shot deflected by De Almeida. PSG pressed for an equalizer, forcing goalkeeper Jasna Mahmutovic into action, denying them in the 69th minute.
Pernille Harder had an opportunity to extend the lead in the 73rd minute but hit the aluminum. Newly substituted Jovana Damnjanovic initially missed a speedy start in the 76th minute, with De almeida blocking her shot.
Ultimately, it was Damnjanovic who secured the win in the final minutes, confidently converting a header from Alara, set up by a cross from Bühl.
