FBI Warns of Steam Game Trojan & Millions in Fraud

March 31, 2026 Rachel Kim – Technology Editor Technology

The FBI is seeking information from individuals who may have downloaded malware disguised as legitimate games on the Steam platform between May 2024 and January 2026. The agency’s Seattle Division initiated the investigation following reports of malicious software embedded within several titles available for download.

Specifically, the FBI has identified seven games of concern: BlockBlasters, Chemia, Dashverse / DashFPS, Lampy, Lunara, PirateFI, and Tokenova. The bureau is requesting that anyone who downloaded these games, or suspects they may have been affected by malware originating from Steam, come forward with details of their experience.

Victims can report their experiences directly to the FBI via email at [email protected]. The agency has created a dedicated online form for submitting information, requesting details such as Steam ID, the specific game downloaded, the date of download, whether the user was contacted to play the game, and any financial losses incurred as a result of the malware.

The investigation comes as the FBI continues to assess the scope of the malware distribution. According to a public service announcement, the agency is attempting to establish timelines, trace financial transactions, and identify connections between affected users. The goal is to gather as much information as possible to understand the full extent of the operation and identify the individuals responsible.

Steam users are being urged to check their devices for signs of infection. Whereas the FBI has not released specific details about the nature of the malware, We see advising users to run full system scans with reputable antivirus software and to be cautious about downloading files from untrusted sources.

The FBI’s investigation is ongoing, and the agency has not yet provided a timeline for its completion. As of March 31, 2026, the bureau continues to solicit information from potential victims.
