Fargo Job Fair Offers Senior Employment Training Program on August 25

August 22, 2026 Emma Walker – News Editor News

Federal Training Initiative Targets Fargo Workforces

Unemployed, low-income job seekers in Fargo can apply for the Senior Community Service Employment Program during an enrollment event scheduled from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 25.

Authorized by the Older Americans Act, the initiative provides paid work training for older adults seeking a bridge to unsubsidized employment.

Structure and Scope of the Senior Community Service Employment Program

The Senior Community Service Employment Program operates as a community service and work-based job training initiative targeted specifically at older Americans.

Participants gain hands-on work experience across a variety of public and non-profit facilities, including schools, hospitals, day-care centers, and senior centers.

The program delivers over 40 million community service hours to public and non-profit agencies that rely on this support to enhance local services.

Strict Eligibility Criteria and Wage Structure for Older Workers

Enrolled individuals work an average of 20 hours per week. They receive compensation set at the highest applicable federal, state, or local minimum wage.

To qualify for the program, applicants must be at least 55 years old, currently unemployed, and possess a family income that does not exceed 125 percent of the federal poverty level.

Enrollment priority is formally directed toward veterans and qualified spouses, followed by individuals over 65, people with disabilities, those with low literacy skills or limited English proficiency, rural residents, individuals experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness, and applicants with low employment prospects who have failed to find employment after using services through the American Job Center system.

American Job Centers Bridge Training and Permanent Careers

Furthermore, participants enrolled in the program gain concurrent access to comprehensive employment assistance through the American Job Center network. These centers help bridge the gap between subsidized training assignments and permanent, unsubsidized careers. State agencies and 19 national non-profit organizations administer the initiative across different jurisdictions.
