Family Bribe Scheme: Condo Managers & Property Business

Singapore Construction Firm Directors & Sons Face Bribery Charges, Obstruction of Justice Allegations

Singapore – June 26, 2024 – A family at the helm of Singaporean construction firm OCL Building Services has been charged with multiple counts of bribery and, in the case of the company’s patriarch, obstruction of justice. The charges stem from alleged payments totaling $56,260 made between 2018 and 2022 to condominium and property managers to secure business for OCL [1].

Ong Chin Kee, 66, and his wife Lea Lam Moy, 66, both directors of OCL, along with their sons Jovi Ong Teng Hong, 36 (project director), and Jordan Ong Wei How, 30 (general manager), each face 17 charges under the Prevention of Corruption Act [1].

The Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) further alleges that Ong Chin Kee attempted to obstruct the investigation by instigating individuals to alter their statements and informing others about the CPIB’s scrutiny of OCL [1]. He faces an additional four charges related to these alleged actions.

Five Property Managers Also Charged

Alongside the OCL family members, five individuals who allegedly accepted bribes are also facing charges:

Lim Pei Xiong, 31 (Malaysian, former condominium manager): Two charges for accepting $23,500 in bribes. Theva Sundram, 71 (Singaporean): Four charges for accepting $20,260 in bribes.
Roberta Mok Yen Kwei, 40 (Singaporean): One charge for accepting $5,000 in bribes.
Azman Abdul Rahim, 61 (Singaporean): Two charges for accepting $3,400 in bribes.

All four members of the Ong family were represented by Tang Shangwei of WongPartnership and are contesting the charges [1]. Pre-trial conferences are scheduled for July 24th.
